About Us
Waterford Driver Testing was founded by Mr. Stewart, a State Certified Road Test Examiner with over 26 years of experience. By day, Mr. Stewart is a high school teacher, and he serves as a road test examiner on evenings, weekends, and throughout the summer. Every examiner on the team holds full state certification, and they share a student-first approach: making sure each student feels supported, prepared, and ready to succeed. The team has helped countless student drivers earn their Michigan driver's license.
What to Bring on the Day of Your Test
Required of You (the student)

Permit or Level 1 License
— issued by the Secretary of State. No photocopies; original document only.

Segment 2 Completion Card (if under 18)
— you must present your Segment 2 completion card if you are under 18 years old. It can be printed out or shown on your phone.

Parent or Legal Guardian
— a parent or legal guardian must accompany the student for the road test. No additional passengers are permitted.

Driving Hours Log (if under 18)
— students under 18 must bring their completed driving hours practice log (printed or on a phone app).

If you are over 18:
you will need your temporary instruction permit, plus insurance and registration for the car.
Required of the Vehicle

You provide the vehicle
— we do not have rental vehicles. You must bring your own car. It can be borrowed from a relative or friend; we only require that it is insured, registered, and fully functional.

Current registration & insurance
— the vehicle must have valid, current registration and insurance documentation.

Lights, horn & signals
— all turn signals, tail lights, brake lights, and the horn must be in full working order.

Wipers, mirrors & windshield
— working wipers and mirrors are required. The windshield must be clear with no obstructing cracks, and the tank must have gas.

Safe, road-worthy condition
— the car must be in safe, road-worthy condition. We reserve the right to refuse testing an unsafe vehicle.
What to Expect During the Test
Before going out on the road, you will complete a
Basic Skills and Parking test in the parking lot
. This must be completed prior to the road test.
Important:
failure of either the Basic Skills test or the Parking test is an immediate certification failure — you will not be permitted to advance to the road test.
During the road portion, we drive around the Waterford and Clarkston area, including a short distance on the expressway. Parallel parking is part of the basic skills (parking) portion of the test, and you can miss up to 6 points on the parking portion. Tests are generally completed within 45 to 60 minutes.

No Refund Policy for Failures:
There is a strict no-refund policy for failures. This applies to any section of testing — basic skills, parking skills, or the road portion.

24-Hour Notice for Schedule Changes:
A minimum 24-hour notice is required for any scheduling changes, including rescheduling. Failure to provide adequate notice will result in the full fee being charged. Online rescheduling is available via the link in your confirmation email when you give at least 24 hours' notice.

Missed Tests:
There are no refunds for missing your test on the test day.

Equipment or Document Failure — $30 Credit:
If a failure occurs due to an equipment issue or a missing/invalid document, a $30 credit will be applied toward your next scheduled test.

Skills Certification Failure — $10 Discount:
If you fail to certify during the skills portion of the test, a $10 discount will be applied on your rescheduled test.

Retesting After a Failure:
You only need to wait 24 hours to take the test again.

How long does the test drive take?

Where are you located?

No problem, as long as you give us 24 hours notice. Anything less and we must charge the full fee. There are no refunds for missing your test on the test day.
Is parallel parking part of the test?
Yes. It is a part of the basic skills, or parking portion of the test.
How many points can I miss on the parking part of the test?
You can miss up to 6 points on the parking portion.
What area do you drive in during the road portion?
We drive around the Waterford and Clarkston area.
